Founded by Nicola Petrera in the late 1800s, Fatalone has been owned by the Petrera family for five generations. The name of the estate originated with Nicola’s son, who was nicknamed Il Fatalone—meaning “lady killer". They began bottling their own wines in 1987 and in 2003 they opened a solar powered cellar, carved into the rocks, combining old traditions with new technology. A new generation of the Petrera family now farms there, creating intriguing, fresh, and highly drinkable wines. Pasquale Petrera, the current steward of the estate, formally certified the vineyards as organic in 2000, though no chemicals had ever been used to treat the vines or the soil.

This is their flagship wine, a full bodied Primitivo that has tons of dried fruit, spice, and tobacco but balances the tannins with a medium acidity. A beautiful wine for a chilly evening, where the high ABV will keep you warm.
